Toby Paterson was born in Glasgow in 1974. He studied at Glasgow School of Art and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, graduating from the former in 1995. Paterson won the 2002 Beck’s Futures and received a Creative Scotland award in 2006.


Recent projects include solo exhibitions in The Hague, London, Zurich, Derry and Edinburgh, group exhibitions in San Francisco, Belgrade, Madrid, Warsaw, Montreal and Muenster, and the commission of permanent works at BBC Scotland’s headquarters, on the campus of Warwick University and at the new Renfrew Health and Social Work Centre. He is also developing work for the Docklands Light Railway’s planned Stratford International Extension in London and is currently preparing for solo exhibitions in Saint-Nazaire and Durham. Paterson’s interest in cities and their architecture is manifested throughout his work in the form of painting, sculpture and photography. He currently lives and works in Glasgow.
