Prior attending the GSA Blake earned his BA in Psychology from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.  After graduating, he earned his certificate in Entrepreneurship & studied printmaking at the University of Iowa.  During his time in Iowa City, he founded the arts-based business, the Grocery.

Blake has an absolute commitment to "the narrative."  His pieces are dedicated towards the exploration and value of various narrative structures which engage larger themes.  The common thread within his practice (including lithography, video, sound, photography, and textiles) is the withholding of information to balance the explicit and the implicit and actively engage the viewer with the work.

For the past three years, concurrently with his solo practice, Blake has been producing a series of collaborative works with his partner Zoe Phillips.  She is a printmaking / installation artist currently enrolled in the MFA program at the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) in San Francisco, California.  Their collaborative works have included photography, video, textile and installation work.

Currently, a selection of their collaborative textile pieces are being shown in San Francisco, CA.  In 2012, Blake and Zoe will be having an exhibition in Glasgow exploring their unique international collaborative process.

Blake's solo work has been shown in Glasgow, as well as across the United States.  He has participated in shows in Des Moines, Iowa City, Chicago, Fargo, Evansville, and Washington, DC.

Winner of the photographic work will also receive a hard copy of the accompanying film to the piece...
